School Policies
Alcohol, Drugs, and Other Controlled Substances
Students found either to be selling drugs, or possessing drugs with the intent to sell them, will be expelled from Buckley.
Any student who (a) shows evidence of having consumed alcohol and/or drugs, (b) is suspected to be in possession of alcohol and/or drugs, (c) is involved in the sale or exchange of alcohol and/or drugs (d) is under the influence of controlled or illegal substances is subject to investigation.
No student or staff are allowed to smoke on school grounds, or provide cigarettes to underage students.
Any student found to be using a fake i.d. to obtain illegal substances for their age will be subject to investigation.
Harassment
Harassment of any kind is not allowed. Below are definitions of each kind of harassment.
Verbal Harassment
Derogatory comments, jokes, and/or threatening words spoken or written to or about another person, including malicious rumors, gossip, and other forms of social aggression.
Physical Harassment
Unwanted physical contact (e.g. touching, assault, deliberate impeding or blocking movements, or any intimidating interference with normal work or movement).
Visual Harassment
Derogatory, demeaning, or inflammatory posters, cartoons, written words, drawings, or gestures.
Sexual Harassment
Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical contact of a sexual nature.
Specific examples of sexual harassment include but are not limited to:
- Making unsolicited sexual advances and propositions
- Using sexually degrading words to describe an individual or individual's body
- Displaying sexually suggestive objects or pictures
- Telling inappropriate or sexually related jokes or stories
- Making reprisals, threats of reprisals, or implied threats of reprisals, following a rejection or a negative response to sexual advances.
Sexual Harassment by a Faculty/Staff Member
Includes unwelcome sexual advances, requests fro sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature when any or all of the following occur:
- Submission to such conduct is made explicitly or implicitly a term or condition of a student's academic status or progress.
- Submission to or rejection of such conduct by a student is used as the bass of academic decision affecting that student.
- Such conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonable interference with a student's academic performance or of creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive educational environment.
Pregnancy
Should a student conceive a human life, the school desires to support the students who have conceived the child. The school supports the student-mother and/or student-father by encouraging the continuation of studies at the school and by providing other forms of guidance.
Attendance Policies
Tardiness
Since students live on campus, they are not expected to be late. However, if they need to be late for any reason, they must contact the administration.
Absences
If a student skips school, the administration will know and find the student.
Sickness
If a student falls ill, they are encouraged to attend class. However, if they are too sick to attend classes, they are allowed to stay in the hospital wing and rest.
Curfew and Sneaking Out
Curfew
If a student fails to check in by curfew, they risk detention. If the student excessively continues to break curfew, they may risk suspension or expulsion.
Sneaking Out
If a student is caught sneaking out, they risk suspension or expulsion.
Cell Phones, iPods, and Laptops
Cell Phones
Every student must have a cell phone when they are off campus. However, when in classes, cell phones may not be used and the teacher may confiscate them if they are seen or heard.
iPods
iPods may only be used before and after school and during lunch. If any part of the iPod is seen during any other time, it will be confiscated
Laptops
Laptops can be used at any time. If in a class, the student must have the permission of the teacher.
